SkillsUSA Council Day
Location:
District 11 CTE Schools
Now in its third year, SkillsUSA Council Day aims to raise awareness and boost student membership across our five Career and Technical Education (CTE) member schools. During this event, SkillsUSA Council visits each CTE school to introduce students to the SkillsUSA organization, its history, and the Council’s Program of Work.
A highlight of SkillsUSA Council Day is the “30 Second Elevator Speech” competition, designed to motivate students and ignite interest in SkillsUSA. This exercise not only energizes participants but also meets three key objectives: motivating, educating, and empowering students.
Additionally, students participate in a catapult assembly line project, inspired by our event sponsor, Mack Trucks, which emphasizes planning, organization, and teamwork within the manufacturing sector.
At the end of the day, participating students are encouraged to return to their classrooms as goodwill ambassadors, promoting the value of SkillsUSA membership to their peers and instructors. The preparation and delivery of their elevator speeches serve as a reflection of their understanding, reinforcing SkillsUSA’s message and empowering them to communicate with confidence.
