82 local students in 60 different competitions will represent District 11 at the SkillsUSA State Championships in Hershey, PA.

The 4th Annual Culinary Challenge will take place on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Top culinary students from our five career and technical schools were paired with five top chefs in the area. Each team will prepare an entrée and the guests decide the winner.

A two-day training conference for over 130 career and technical education students. Here they learn valuable employability and communication skills, problem solving techniques, dining etiquette, and teamwork. Students also have an opportunity to meet professionals in their field in order to learn more about their career options.

A one-day training session for career and technical education students that provides instruction in public speaking, communication, and social etiquette skills in order to prepare them to represent the Council and their schools throughout the year.

A presentation of the Leadership by Example Award to a local business leader who has made a significant contribution to career and technical education. Students who attend are given an opportunity to speak and network with Council members and area business leaders.

Showcase for the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through state and national events.

Students who receive gold medals at the state level are recognized and prepared to represent the Lehigh Valley at the National Leadership and Skills Conference.

This award was given to 40 exceptional career and technical education students for their scholastic achievement, participation in SkillsUSA, membership and leadership positions in student organizations and sports, community involvement, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Fifty-three local students representing District 11 won medals in thirty-four different competitions at the SkillsUSA State Championships in Hershey, PA. Seventeen won gold, twenty-one won silver, and fifteen won bronze medals. Gold medal winners will represent Pennsylvania at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri from June 23 – 27, 2012.

John McGlade of Air Products was honored with the 2011 Leadership by Example Award for his commitment to career and technical education. Mr. McGlade was born in Bethlehem, studied at Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, earned a B.S. and M.B.A. from Lehigh University and then joined Air Products. Mr. McGlade was also last year’s National SkillsUSA CEO Champion of the Year. Allana Karo, Ariel Karo, and Timothy Hofstetter, from Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, presented their national gold medal community service project. Theodore Kourpas and Nicole Mautino, engineering students from Bethlehem AVTS who spent time with Mr. McGlade, introduced him.
